Journal of Sustainability and Community Empowerment (JSCE) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Dharma Samakta Edukhatulistiwa. JSCE focuses on how sustainability knowledge is translated into learning, participation, and meaningful action within educational and community contexts.

The journal provides a platform for research that connects sustainability challenges with contextual knowledge, education, and community engagement. Particular attention is given to studies that examine how people and communities learn about sustainability, develop relevant competencies, draw on local knowledge and contexts, and transform knowledge into individual or collective action.

JSCE welcomes empirical and applied studies addressing sustainability through:

  • sustainability education and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD);
  • science and STEM learning for sustainability;
  • sustainability competencies, learning, and action;
  • local knowledge and context-based approaches to sustainability;
  • environmental and climate-related learning and action;
  • community participation, empowerment, and collaborative initiatives; and
  • community-based approaches to environmental sustainability and sustainable livelihoods.

A distinctive feature of JSCE is its emphasis on the connection between knowledge, context, and action. The journal particularly values research that moves beyond describing sustainability problems to examine how education and community engagement can enable people to understand, participate in, and act on sustainability challenges.

JSCE welcomes research from diverse geographical and educational settings, with particular interest in contextually grounded studies from Indonesia, the Global South, and other settings where local knowledge, community participation, and sustainability challenges intersect.

All submitted manuscripts undergo initial editorial screening followed by double-blind peer review involving at least two reviewers. JSCE is an open access journal, and published articles are freely available through the journal website.
