Focus and Scope

Journal of Sustainable Social Studies Education (JSSSE) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published biannually (two issues per year). The journal is committed to advancing high-quality empirical and theoretical research in the interdisciplinary fields of Social Studies Education, Sustainability Education, Civic Education, and transformative learning. JSSSE promotes innovative scholarship that explores the design, implementation, evaluation, and development of sustainable and socially responsive educational practices across diverse educational contexts and levels.

The journal particularly encourages research that examines sustainability-oriented pedagogy, civic and citizenship education, multicultural and inclusive education, digital transformation in social studies learning, environmental and climate change education, and interdisciplinary approaches that strengthen critical thinking, social awareness, democratic values, and responsible citizenship in contemporary society.

The journal welcomes original research articles, review papers, and conceptual studies addressing, but not limited to, the following areas:

Note: The journal also considers broader educational studies outside social studies education, provided that the studies contribute significantly to sustainability, citizenship, social transformation, or contemporary educational challenges.
